What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a debilitating pain disorder affecting a significant portion of the population. It causes chronic pain that can affect a person’s entire body, attacking the central nervous system. This has been attributed to some kind of abnormality in how pain is processed by the body’s receptors. But really we’re still not quite sure what’s happening.

Of course, pain is not the only problem, some patients have also reported disrupted sleep patterns, anxiety, and depression. Some people experience problems with their long-term and short-term memories.

How Does It Happen?

The exact causes of fibromyalgia are largely unclear at this stage. Naturally, this can only frustrate those enduring it. It affects people in different ways and could be caused by a mixture of both genetic, with the condition often running in families, and environmental factors, such as psychological stress and infections. At this point, though there is still no specific diagnosis that can be given to verify whether someone has it.

What Are The Treatment Options?

One of the toughest things about fibromyalgia is that it can be extremely difficult to treat. This is largely due to the fact that it is still not largely understood. Until the root cause is discovered treatment will be naturally more challenging.

Some of the main treatment options that are currently being used are getting enough amounts of sleep to allow the body to recover, painkillers like aspirin and ibuprofen, anticonvulsants, a regulated exercise regimen, and trying to maintain a healthy diet. As you can tell though, these things could be recommended to those without fibromyalgia, too. It’s a tricky situation for medical professionals.

Could CBD Be An Option?

CBD hasn’t been proven to be an effective treatment of fibromyalgia, neither has anything else. CBD has long been known for its anti-inflammatory benefits and ability to combat pain. So it may well be something to consider for those suffering fibromyalgia.

Researchers are still trying to verify just how effective CBD could be for fibromyalgia and more studies need to be conducted.

That said, there is a range of CBD options available. Whether it’s through vaping CBD hemp oil, capsules, or balms CBD has been known to alleviate pain in muscles and joints, sometimes more effectively than regular painkillers.

While the relationship between CBD and fibromyalgia is still being explored it does look positive for the future. As always with any kind of new treatment, it’s important to know what you’re getting into. So if you desire to use CBD to treat your own fibromyalgia it’s important to consult a doctor or healthcare professional.
