We all know that CBD can help fight cancer, relieve stress and treat chronic pain, but did you know that it could also help you lose a few pounds…
Most people have struggled to lose weight at one point or another in their lives and many turn to weight loss products for that extra bit of help. As a generation we are a lot more conscious of what is going on inside our bodies and what we put in them, when it comes to weight loss products, consumers want a natural supplement.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabis compound that has significant medical benefits, but does not make you feel “stoned”, when taken in small amounts CBD works alongside our endocannabinoid system to maintain homeostasis.
You’re probably wondering what on earth the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is, ECS is a complex network of mechanisms that regulate a huge number of functions within your body. It is responsible for controlling the responses of our immune system, sleep, mood, and of course…appetite.
CB1 and CB2 are the most common cannabinoid receptors working alongside our endocannabinoid system and these are more active when reacting with CBD and THC. CB1 receptors are concentrated in the brain and manage our central nervous system, THC when consumed will increase your appetite by binding to CB1 receptors (also known as the munchies) and CB2 will more or less do the opposite.
Usually CB2 receptors tend in inhibit food intake and alongside the consumption of CBD these compounds help regulate a chemical balance and thus promote weight loss.
So What Is Actually Happening?
The consumption of CBD is stimulating our fat metabolism and this then enhances oxidation and the breakdown of fat. It also decreases lipogenesis meaning the expression of protein involved in the product of lipid compound. Finally CBD generates fat browning by transforming white adipose tissue which is usually stored as fat, to brown adipose tissue which can help burn more energy (and fat).
CBD and Insulin levels
So not only does CBD work alongside our ECS to promote weight loss but the substance has also shown its ability to help regulate blood sugar levels in our body. Lower insulin levels mean that more fat can essentially be burned off throughout our day or even when you’re working out and this can lead to weight loss. Alongside CBD’s long list of health benefits users will also be at less risk of type two diabetes thanks to decreased blood sugar levels.
If you are using CBD oil for weight loss or any CBD product it should be high in CBD and low in THC. It should also be consumed in a very low dosage as a high dosage may even lead to weight gain.
