Resources online about legal cannabis products can be difficult to understand as they throw around lots of jargon and create uncertainty by not explaining the ins and outs of exactly what goes into each remedy, dietary supplement and product. What many first-time buyers don’t know is that hemp seed oil is a different ingredient to CBD oil; and here, we explain those differences.

CBD can be derived from hemp, but in fact the two oils are made from different parts of cannabis plants and have different purposes. CBD is a compound found within hemp flowers, so this is extracted from the plant and purified into the oil you find in available retail products. Hemp oil is made by either cold pressing, peeling or crushing hemp seeds and is also found in a variety of products, but its legality varies and it is (currently) considered more ‘socially acceptable’ as a natural ingredient across more territories and countries.

Similarly to CBD, hemp oil does not have any psychoactive effect or THC, so is not used recreationally, but rather for more practical purposes. CBD oil is usually used for medicinal and anti-inflammatory purposes, but hemp oil products focus on protein and nourishment; as a dietary supplement, hair and beauty product, and for hygiene purposes.

Organic hemp oil contains high protein, unsaturated fats, minerals and essential amino acids, and is nutty and flavorful, making it the ideal consumable as a dietary supplement to manage healthy nourishment and nutrition.

The naturally occurring rich vitamins and minerals within hemp oil gives it a wealth of health benefits, all clinically and scientifically proven. The high levels of Omega 6 and Omega 3 within increases human immunity, counteracts ageing skin and boosts cardiovascular health. Linoleic Acid promotes healthy, elastic skin and has been shown to help soothe and heal skin conditions including psoriasis. Women undergoing the menopausal or peri-menopausal period may find relief in eating hemp seeds, as the acid also helps regulate hormonal balance.

As a dietary addition, hemp is ideal for vegetarians, vegans, and those on restricted diets, as untreated organic hemp seeds contain the ideal ratio of essential fatty acids that can be difficult to balance with traditional nutrition. What’s more, there’s evidence to support the moderation of blood sugar levels (ideal for those suffering with diabetes) and to lower cholesterol by accelerating human metabolism.

However, there are some side effects to the naturally-occurring properties of hemp oil that consumers should remain mindful of. It is naturally an anti-coagulant, so should be avoided by those using medicinal blood-thinners, and can encourage cell regeneration; so those at high risk of prostate cancer in particular should not consume it. As a side note to all consumers, hemp oil should not be heated, as this process will dilute the natural goodness within it.

Hemp oil is a fantastic product and has numerous benefits to those who consume and use it; but it is important to remember that it is not the same as CBD oil, and each has its own pros and cons.
